Making effective communication a reality
We are a local chapter of District 100, Portola Division Toastmasters International serving the Cities of Anaheim, Placentia, Fullerton and part of Orange. The Club meets at Jagerhaus Restaurant every Tuesday from 7:00am to 8:30am at 2525 E Ball Road, Anaheim CA 92806.
In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club “to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members.” The group took the name “Toastmasters.” We are a local chapter of Toastmasters International.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. It has served over four million people and today the organization serves over 352,000 members in 141 countries through its 16,400 member clubs.
Membership in Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. At $45 every six months (club dues may vary), it is also one of the most cost-effective skill-building tools available anywhere.
How Does It Work?
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere.
There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success.
Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.
Members learn communication and leadership skills through Pathways, a series paths with different levels designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking and leadership.
